Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of work-life balance on employee retention among the staff of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Maiduguri Main Branch. Borno State, Nigeria. The study specifically assessed the effect of career progression, flexibility of time and job burnout on employee retention. Survey method was used to collect data, the study population is 45 staff of the bank. The whole population is examined as sample size using the census method and multiple linear regression was applied to analyse the data using statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS) version 25.0. The findings of the study revealed that there is a positive significant effect of career progression, and flexibility of time on employee retention, while job burnout indicates an insignificant effect on employee retention in the bank. The implication of the study is that an organisation can achieve a retention mechanism through the implementation of various strategies and policies that will facilitate work-life balance among employees. It is recommended that the organisation must take cognisance of improving the psychology and welfare of the employees while also introducing stress management practices.
